I'm on a roll lately with the homemade recipes. This week has been a bit of a baking ringamarole, due mostly to my classmates and my end of term baked-goods promise; one of them requested butter cookies with royal icing (not the easiest job!), and another can't have dairy so I had to throw something else in the mix.

Cookie decorating photoshoot!

There were really just too many of these to put them all in the post they relate to, but I couldn't not share the adorableness, so here you go!

The antidote to a meltdown: pumpkin pie bread!

Last week, I made up my very own recipe for the first time! Oh, yeah, I've fiddled with recipes before, adding deliciousness or subbing when necessary, but I'd never just straight-up made up a recipe! It was a very exciting moment for me.

The cure for night classes: homemade granola bars!
I think I've mentioned before that I'm studying for my MA, but I'm not sure I've told you the classes go from 6-9 in the evening. Now, I don't usually mind having class at night, as long as it's interesting (which these generally are, unlike my night Spanish class at undergrad– GAH), but my stomach does get a bit cranky about the disruption of my usual mealtime. Aaaaand one of the ways I tend to stay focused on important things like writing essays and discussing literature is to mindlessly eat anything in front of me.

The much belated V-Day post: my new favorite roll cookie recipe and an experiment with Royal Icing
Pin It
Valentine's Day was a little tough this year. It seems ungrateful to say it, but I actually think things were too good in my relationship; our expectations of romance were unrealistically high, given that I had put the kibbosh on anything over-the-top.

How much more could I POSSIBLY love bread?!
Tons more, as it turns out. Who knew that making bread myself would make it taste that much sweeter? Or, saltier, if we're talking about my sea-salt-crusted preference. Anyway, I'm sure it has less to do with the hard work than with the delectable smell of baking bread, which makes my stomach growl and my boyfriend harass until the loaf comes out of the oven and we inevitably ignore the instruction to let it cool completely before slicing. Whether we're missing out on something by slicing too early, I'll never know, because I doubt we'll ever be able to wait to break open a loaf like this:
